So why are the words "SAFE SEX" synonymous with the word "CONDOM"??
GOOD QUESTION!!
Let’s examine the facts:
FACT: Even when used correctly and consistently, condoms have about a 10% failure rate for pregnancy.
FACT: Most teenagers do not use condoms correctly or consistently. 1 out of every 5 teenagers who uses a condom will be pregnant within 18 months.
FACT: There is no way to measure the failure rate for condoms and the HIV virus, since it may take up to 3 years to test positive for this virus after exposure. However, considering the failure rate for pregnancy, the possibilities are SCARY!! Consider three points:
1. A woman can only get pregnant 24-72 hours (1-3 days) in each month; whereas, you can contract HIV on any given day.
2. Only women can get pregnant, which obviously doubles HIV statistics, since men and women equally are at risk.
3. A sperm cell is 450 times larger than the HIV virus. This is like comparing a basketball to a bee bee. You get the point.
So what IS "safe sex?" The medical line is this: no genital contact of any kind, or you are at risk. In other words, keep your pants on!! Marry a safe partner (someone who was either totally abstinent, or else has been tested and hasn’t had any previous genital contact with anyone else for at least 3 years), and maintain a one-partner relationship.
That’s the medical line you should not cross, but God’s Word informs us that the risks of fornication, or sex outside of marriage, run far deeper than merely an unwanted pregnancy or a sexually transmitted disease.
Let’s read I Corinthians 6:16-20
v. 16, 17 "What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit." Did you know that an emotional and spiritual bond is formed between sex partners, even if it is a prostitute? Satan will use these ties to hinder a full commitment to your marriage partner later in life.
v. 18 "Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." Did you know that there are over 50 known STD’s today? Many of these cause infertility and/or cancer. This is serious business!!
v. 19 , 20 "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s." God will hold you accountable for the sin of fornication, and there are spiritual consequences to being disobedient to His clear will. Sex is a wonderful thing created by God, but it is meant to be enjoyed within the context of the marriage relationship.
TEENAGERS, you should be insulted by the message from our popular culture today! They don’t think you are capable of making a wise decision, so they withhold all the facts and just give you a blanket cure for it all: THE CONDOM. Why not be a rebel and make your own intelligent decision to remain abstinent until marriage? Remember, GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOU!! Don’t cheat yourself out of any of His blessings!
Now you know the facts, so go "do the right thing!!"
