PREGNANT?
An unplanned pregnancy is truly a scary situation for any young woman. Truthfully, there is no easy way out at this point. So, what are your choices?
Single parenthood - Certainly the most challenging for you, though not impossible if you have the support of family and friends, and also the help of your local crisis pregnancy center. Parenting classes may help prepare you for some of the issues you will face. It is important to seek counseling concerning whether or not you are financially and emotionally ready to raise a child.
Marriage - Statistically, marriages that begin as a result of an unplanned pregnancy have little chance of surviving beyond 5 years. Though each situation is different, it is important to realize that few young men have ever become mature and responsible simply because of the birth of a baby.
Adoption - Counseling will help you get all the facts, and decide if adoption is a possible choice for you. Whatever pre-conceived notions you may have about adoption, statistics show that adopted children are usually well-rounded, emotionally healthy individuals, and they have a high respect and love for their birth parents who made such a brave choice on their behalf. A good adoption agency will encourage long-term support for the birth parents, and also support and training for adopting parents. LMO is affiliated with such an agency, called Hope for Children. You can rest comfortably in the knowledge that all prospective parents have undergone hours of interviews and background checks. You can even be the one to pick which family will raise your child! For more information about adoption, click on the "adoption" bar on the menu at left.
Abortion - Before you make the decision to abort, be sure you have enough accurate information to make such a "final" decision. You can’t change your mind afterwards.
Did you know that....
- at just 20 days old, the brain is already beginning to form in your baby
- at just 21 days old, the heart begins to beat
- at just 6 weeks, brain waves can be measured
- at just 8 weeks, the stomach, liver, kidneys, and brain are functioning
- at just 9 weeks, fingerprints have formed
These milestones often take place before a mother even knows that she is pregnant. The reality is this: There is a life inside your womb, and you have the responsibility to decide what’s best for you baby. Certainly, if he/she had a voice to speak, the baby would choose LIFE!!
IF YOU’RE CONSIDERING ABORTION, you should know that many women often live to regret their abortion decision. Pregnancy, and the radical hormonal changes that accompany it, often give women a feeling of panic and hopelessness, when the situation was unplanned. Fears of the financial burden, or a hasty marriage, or of raising a child alone, could convince you that abortion is your only alternative at this point. BUT THE TRUTH IS THIS: There is help available for you if you decide to raise your child, or you may choose adoption. (click on the "adoption" menu bar at left, and scroll down to "Adoption vs. Abortion").
The fact is, you’re a mother now, and someone special is counting on you to make the best decision for him or her. Abortion won’t be the "quick fix" you’re looking for; instead, it will make you a grieving mother. If you’d like to talk to someone who’s had an abortion, call or e-mail LMO today, or click on the "I’ve had an abortion" menu bar at left, to gain more insight.
