ABORTION INFORMATION
The Facts
In the U.S., every 22 seconds, a baby dies from abortion. That’s 1.4 million babies each year, and 4,000 each day. Since Roe vs. Wade in 1973, 45 million babies have died.
1 out of every 4 women has had an abortion, and 43% of all women who have abortions will have 2 or more.
Women can legally abort their unborn child at any time throughout their entire nine months of pregnancy.
2 million adoption requests go unanswered each year. The average abortion procedures takes 5 to 10 minutes; the average wait for adoption takes 2 to 10 years.
Types of Abortions
(The methodused depends on how long you have been pregnant, or the number of days since the first day of your last period.)
RU-486 - This is a medical abortion, which is performed during the earliest part of pregnancy, up to 7 weeks. The procedure consists of a series of drugs given to first halt implantation, and then to expel the fetus from the womb.Possible side effects include nausea, diarrhea, sores in the mouth, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, and vaginal bleeding.
Dilation & Aspiration (D&A) - This is a surgical abortion, performed during 7-13 weeks of gestation. A hollow plastic tube is inserted into the cervix. This tube is connected to a machine with a suction force 29 times more powerful than a home vacuum cleaner, which suctions the baby out into a small container. The walls of the uterus are then scraped to insure that no fetal tissue or parts are left behind. Possible complications include puncturing of the uterus, internal bleeding, and infection from fetal parts not completely removed.
Dilation & Evacuation (D&E) - This is a surgical abortion, performed during the second trimester, 13-26 weeks of gestation. This procedure has largely replaced saline and chemical abortions, which too frequently resulted in live births (a complication from the abortionist’s perspective). The cervix is dilatedwith the use of a tampon-like expander; this is generally done overnight, and will cause extreme cramping. Forceps are then used to remove the baby piece by piece, finally crushing the skull to remove the baby’s head. This type of abortion is also performed under sedation or with local anesthesia (though none for the baby). Possible complications include infection, incomplete abortion, heavy bleeding, uterine or other internal damage, and cervical tears.
Partial Birth Abortion (D&X) - This is a surgical abortion performed after 24 weeks of gestation. After the overnight dilation process is completed, the abortionist locates a foot or lower leg of the baby, and pulls it into the vagina. The baby is extracted in breech fashion until the head is just inside the cervix. With the baby face down, with legs hanging outside the mother’s body, scissors are plunged into the baby’s head at the nape of the neck and spread open to allow the insertion of a suction tip. The baby’s brain is removed, the skull collapses, and the baby is delivered. Possible complications are the same as the D&E procedure, only intensified due to the size of the baby.
Why do women have abortions?
According to survey data collected by abortion providers themselves, the overwhelming majority of all abortions - 95% - are done as a means of birth control.
Only 1% of all abortions are performed because of rape or incest, and 3% are due to fetal abnormalities or mothers’ health problems.
What does God’s Word say about abortion?
While the word "abortion" is never mentioned in the Scriptures, the entire Bible is a story of God creating life as sacred and special, and His effort to maintain fellowship with mankind; beginning in the womb of his mother. Below are just a couple of the Scriptures that show this theme:
"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." Jeremiah 1:5
"....The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name." Isaiah 49:1
The Scriptures also clearly address the issue of child sacrifice, giving strong warnings not only to those who participate, but also to those who "hide their eyes" from this atrocity. Please read Leviticus 20:1-5 and Psalm 106:34-38 for examples.
What does God’s Word say about "choice"?
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" I Corinthians 6:19
"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Proverbs 14:12
"....and be sure your sin will find you out." Numbers 32:23
"Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." Psalm 100:3
The idea that women are entitled to unlimited choice regarding pregnancy and childbirth is both flawed and unrealistic. Literally millions of laws have been recorded throughout history limiting our choices. Some people choose to drink and drive; others choose to sell drugs; others choose to rape women. Thankfully, their personal choices are restricted by law. Should these laws be overturned to accommodate personal freedom? Of course not!!!
Though the Supreme Court can remove the legal restrictions from abortion, it can’t make abortion morally right. We are bound to a Higher Standard set by Almighty God, Which cannot be overturned or stamped out by politics. Think about it.
